Mission Trip and Prayer

As many of you already know, I will soon be leaving on a mission trip with several other awesome people from Rich Fork Baptist Church. In my discussion with people about this trip, I have encounter 2 responses. The first of which is "why?" The can easily answer with the great commission Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8 in seeing the truth of the Gospel carried around the world. The second is at first nice, but in the end counter productive. That would be when most people tell me to "be safe" or are praying for my safety. For the average pew sitter this would be a logical prayer, but is really a prayer that is the opposite of what scripture teaches. Through countless examples in the Old and the New Testament God does not remove the danger, but sustains the believer through it. Examples like Moses, Paul, Peter, and even Christ, point to the way in which God moved in their times of distress and suffering. Yes, even suffering that ends in death! One might ask why God would allow that? That answer is much simpler. In this God is glorified.

So what I ask you to do in response is not to pray for our safety, but pray that God will be glorified above all else. No matter how much that might cost. Yes, I'm ready no matter the cost.......are you?
